During the last few months, between official information that Hyundai itself has offered and leaks, we have enough information about the plans that the brand has for the urban segment. And it turned out that the South Korean brand was going to prepare two electric cars with an urban focus for the European market, successors to the Hyundai I10, but effectively with fully electric power. It is expected that they will arrive next year in 2024 or at least one of them will be launched next year. And we’re going to tell you what, now we know about these benefits.
The brand itself, officially, already said last year that it has developed an electric car segment, which is exactly where the Hyundai i10 fits in today, at a price of less than 20,000 European coins. And yes, this means that it will be a cheap electric car because, to give you an idea, the cheapest that is available today is the Dacia Ver and it is around 20,000 European coins, which with the help of the MOVING III Plan is referred to around 13,000. . However, shortly after the official announcements of Hyundai, it leaked not one but two electric cars that are preparing for the same segment and indeed mainly focused on price competition with the Dacia Ver.
Two new cheap electric cars from Hyundai, less than 20,000 coins to compete with Dacia Source in Europe
It is expected that one of them is a conventional car in the style of the Hyundai i10, while the other is a somewhat different model with a crossover body. In the recreation that accompanies this article, we can see what it would be like to bring the style of the IONIQ 5 and the new generation Kona EV to this smaller segment, something that we do not know if it will happen because at the moment Hyundai has it. has made no progress on its plans for two small, cheap electric cars planned for next year 2024.
Meanwhile, what is leaking is that the E-GMP platform used by examples such as the IONIQ V, IONIQ 6 or KIA EV6, will not be the same one used by these two smaller examples. First, because the platform is compatible with the models between segment B and segment E, as well as the fact that using these launches would mean a significant increase in costs. This is because, if they use them, they will have to be much more expensive than what they set out to achieve and therefore stop competing with Fonte Dacia. And now what Europe needs is precisely cheap electric cars that these two options suggest.
The possibility of using the K1 platform of the Hyundai i10 and the latest generation KIA Picanto is considered, but this is with pure electric systems. And it is already known that the architecture is compatible, because there are the KIA Ray EV and the future Hyundai Casper EV. And on the other hand, what has also been confirmed, will use the BorgWarner iDM engine, which according to official data from the company is an electric motor that can produce up to 185 CV of maximum power, approximately. Obviously this powertrain is not going to get more out of it, it would be too much for an electric city car, so something around 100 hp would make much more sense. His power will be limited, period.
And these two new cheap electric cars will not only compete for the European market with the Dacia Spring, but on the road they will also meet the BYD Seagull and other options such as the Volkswagen ID.1. The German brand has already said that this model will be below the ID.2all, the name of which has not yet been confirmed, but as we will continue to know the Volkswagen ID.1, we will have a price even below 20,000 coins. So, one way or another, there are going to be options that compete in the European market.
