Last week, SsangYong announced the delivery of 43 examples of its new pickup truck, commercially known as Musso Sports, to the Air Force. Your task is to renew the air police fleet, which previously consisted of similar but older and already paid-off transporters. The South Korean model was launched this year and, even in the entry-level version, is a vehicle with four-wheel drive, good off-road capability, a lot of power and a superior level of technology. The main alternatives, which are also the most expensive: Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.
The SsangYong Musso Sports is 5.4 meters long and has a double cabin, which means it has four doors and five seats. Its storage box is the largest in its class as it is 1.6 meters deep, 1.5 meters wide and 0.6 meters high. This corresponds to a volume of more than 1,200 liters and a payload of more than one ton thanks to the rigid rear axle with leaf suspension. In this series it can tow a maximum of 3,000 kg, thanks in part to a four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 202 hp and 440 Nm. It is mated to a manual or automatic transmission, both with six speeds and a gear ratio of 2.48 to 1.
Although it is a vehicle for professionals, it is comfortable and practical even outside of the harsh environment in which it must be used regularly. Starting at 27,500 euros including the promotional discounts it enjoys until the end of the year, it offers several driving aids and the basic (or not so basic) amenities that every modern car includes: 17-inch alloy wheels, four speakers, digital radio, Bluetooth connection , electric exterior mirrors, air conditioning, instrument display, etc.
The engine of this product has a normal consumption taking into account the weight of the assembly (heavy) and its aerodynamics (normal), since it reports an average of 8.6 l/100 km according to the WLTP homologation procedure. This means that the Ministry of Defense’s economic allocation for air police fuel should be met except in emergency or extraordinary use of the newly released trucks.
