Antofagasta Housing and Urban Planning Seremi officials protested last week over the alleged dismissal of two workers. This after the fall of Foundation for Living Democracy.

In this context, the Undersecretariat of Housing and Urban Planning clarified that “the decision not to maintain the continuity of two people in the SERVIU Antofagasta (…)” subject exclusively to the necessity of following the instructions of the Chief Auditor General of the Republic which prohibited the work of these services from being carried out by persons other than their regular, contractual or volunteer officers.”
In this sense, they explained that the supervisory body’s report “explicitly states that the recruitment of staff through foundations ‘does not comply with the provisions of Article 2 of Law 18.834 on the Administrative Statute’.”
They also emphasized that “There can hardly be any talk of a withdrawal, as there was never a contractual connection between these people and SEREMI MINVU or SERVIU. At the regional level there was a desire to regulate the recruitment of these specialists. and for the same reason, since August, they continue to provide services at the request of SERVIU management while their contracts are managed.”
“However, when you look at the various alternatives and consider the history, At the central level, the formal procedure was chosen, which consists in proclaiming a public competition to which anyone can apply according to their merits and career. and this will be the case when the precarious settlements program is reinforced at the times agreed with SERVIU Antofagasta,” they added.
In this regard, they pointed out that “A legal and administrative regulation is being sought to regulate the payment of remuneration what will be seen individually with these two people.”
