The United Nations is asking Mexico to look into the fire at the migrant center

The United Nations on Monday called for an extensive investigation into a fire at a migrant center in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juárez that had previously left 38 dead.

The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, asked the Mexican authorities to carry out an investigation into the tragic event, and reiterated his commitment to continue to collaborate and work with the countries from which the majority of migrants leave “to establish safer migration routes, composed and organized.

The United Nations system in Mexico expressed its solidarity with the families of the victims of the fire and Guterres joined the call to complete the investigation to complete the services in this event.

In the hours of Tuesday night, the Mexican government estimated the death toll at 38 as a result of the fire at the migration center in Ciudad Juárez on the border of the United States, and the number of injuries at 28.

According to a statement from the National Institute of Migration of Mexico (INM), after completing a tour of the hospitals where people affected by the fire were admitted, the number of people who died was updated and 38 deaths were confirmed.

Earlier, the INM reported that 40 migrants had died and 28 were injured.

The text adds that the immigration matter collaborated with the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) and with the Commission of National Rights (CNDH) with evidence and evidence to clarify the reasons for the fire.

For his part, the Mexican undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Maximiliano Reyes Zúñiga, met with ambassadors and consuls from different countries where the deceased migrants came from to coordinate actions for the tragedy that occurred at the immigration station in Ciudad Juárez.

According to the Mexican Civil Service, 2022 was the deadliest year for migrants in Mexico, as some 900 died crossing into the United States.
