This Wednesday, the US government offered Morocco $1 million in humanitarian aid to deal with the disaster caused by the earthquake in the south of Marrakesh. last Friday, in which more than 2,900 people died and 5,500 were injured.
“These funds will help organizations on the ground provide food assistance, health services and shelter,” USAID Director Samantha Power reported in a statement.
The official assured that the country has provided technical assistance to the Moroccan government to help address the crisis and stands ready to provide more support if Morocco requests it.
After the earthquake, Morocco accepted humanitarian aid from Spain, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, but did not rule out asking other countries for assistance.
The USAID administrator expressed her “deepest condolences” to the Moroccan people for the devastation caused by the earthquake, while reaffirming “the commitment” of the United States to support the “reconstruction efforts” of the Moroccan executive branch.
He also praised the “tremendous courage” of the affected neighbors and the lifeguards in searching for the missing people. and urged Americans to donate to reputable local organizations.
