In order to replace 200 M113 armored personnel carriers in Ukraine, and to improve the mobility of the armed fleet, the US Army has awarded BAE Systems a new contract to acquire armored multiple use vehicles (AMPV) for the total value of the US. $245 million.
M113 vehicles were acquired during the Vietnam War, so the US Army included the first recapitalization program in the armored mobility fleet. BAE Systems will carry out part of its work at its facilities in York, Pennsylvania along with the Army Contracting Command located in Detroit, Michigan.

The vehicle combines core mobility features with advanced technologies designed to improve operational survival in battle. Its design is based on the Bradley IFV infantry fighting vehicle, but it incorporates an open turret: in it, by mounting the weapon, a safe weapon station can be installed to house the machine guns 7.62mm, or 12.7mm, or 40mm. grenade launcher
The driver’s compartment and the engine (a Cummins diesel engine offering a maximum power of 600 hp) are located in the front stern, while the train section is located in the rear. At the rear is a hydraulic ramp that allows rapid entry and exit of troops. The maximum speed is 61 km per hour and it has a maximum autonomy of 362 km.
The AMPVs, for their part, are expected to be deployed by the Armored Brigade Combat Team
