The Embassy of the United States in Venezuela reiterated its call for free and fair elections in Venezuela, regarding the primaries scheduled for 2024.
Through its X account, the embassy revealed that they will always support the voice of the citizens to be heard.
“Free and fair elections are the foundation of any thriving democracy. The United States supports Venezuela and all countries in listening to the voices of their citizens, and allowing democracy and people to thrive. as is a powerful way to support real change,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan opposition continues the race towards the primary election on October 22, while overcoming obstacles such as the disqualification of three candidates, attacks, a process without the support of the CNE and the request for a challenge before the Supreme Court of Justice.
The National Primary Commission says that the schedule continues as scheduled, while the Unitary Platform encourages citizens to participate, because they consider it a process that seeks democratic union.
However, the mayor of Chacao and leader of the Fuerza Vecinal party, Gustavo Duque believes that the internal elections should be postponed due to the lack of preparation.
“We have time ahead of us, probably the mature decision is ‘we are going to reorganize this, we are going to give ourselves one more month, two more months,'” said the politician in an interview with Globovision.
“I feel that it does not harm the event, it adds to the event, it fixes, perhaps, the weaknesses that we can have,” he continued.
