The Wachowski Sisters are auctioning off a collection of movie memorabilia for trans youth charity

Movie memorabilia collectors are having a great weekend. Warmed by the news that Judy Garland’s original “Wizard of Oz” dress was found in a shoebox and is set to be auctioned next month, Lana and Lily Wachowski are planning to auction off a large portion of their personal archives to raise money. Lana Wachowski came out as a trans woman in 2012, and her sister Lily did the same in 2016. Since then, he has been a vocal advocate for LGBT rights in Hollywood and beyond, specifically focusing on the unique problems facing trans people. On Saturday, Lily Wachowski tweeted “Hi you! So me and Lana are doing some spring cleaning at our Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse and we’ve happily decided to pass on some of the best treasures we’ve been collecting over the years!! Key artifacts up for auction include memorabilia from the Wachowski Sisters’ 25-year filmmaking career. Dubbed “Enter the Matrix: The Wachowski Collection,” the online auction includes props, concept art, and collectible merchandise from movies and television shows including “Cloud Atlas,” “Jupiter Ascendant,” “Sense 8,” and “The Matrix.” Huh. The Wachowskis are also selling some of their personal collection from movies they didn’t make, including the vintage “The Evil Dead” and “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!” the posters

Notable items include an original Lightning rifle from “The Matrix”, a Neo-Seoul police speeder from “Cloud Atlas” and the MTV Movie Awards for Best Director that the Wachowski Sisters received for “The Matrix”, as well as Also included is a set. Original production blueprints from the film.

All proceeds from the auction will go to the Protect and Defend Trans Youth Fund, which distributes money to a variety of state-specific charities aimed at helping trans children in states where they lack adequate legislative protections. The initiative was founded by Ariana Grande earlier this year, and has already raised nearly $800,000 for the charity. Beneficiaries include the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition, Equality Florida and the Zebra Coalition.
