Fernando Jaramillo, president of Dimayor, assured that there will be a meeting between the Minister of Sports and delegates from Colombian football clubs: “She will express the government’s will to support the women’s professional league and the clubs will express this “From a financial point of view, it is difficult for a continuous women’s league,” revealed the director in an interview with “Semana”.
In addition, he explained the sporting reasons for not having a one-year league in 2024: “From a sporting perspective, as an administration, I want to show that it will be very difficult to have a 12-month league because we have gold. “ Championship, the U-20 World Cup in Colombia, Olympic Games and in October we have the Copa Libertadores.”
For this reason, he explained that they are aiming for a seven-month league: “The women’s football calendar is very complex if we want to have a comprehensive championship and the idea is to present a proposal to the assembly and work with the clubs on the 24th or 25th . Starting in January and ending at the end of August.”
It is said that the league will have 17 participating teams and that the cost would be approximately 40 billion pesos; This means that 32 billion would have to be raised, as the government pledged a contribution of 8 billion Colombian pesos.
