Saint Joseph.- Federal prosecutors in the United States have asked that the former CEO of pharmaceutical company Theranos not be released. In court documents, he alleged that Elizabeth would attempt to escape while appealing her 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors in the Holmes company.
Prosecutors said in a motion filed Thursday in a Northern California court that Holmes had a one-way plane ticket booked to Mexico for January 26, 2022, three weeks after a jury found her guilty of fraud and conspiracy. .
Holmes, who was CEO during Theranos’ turbulent 15-year history, was indicted in a conspiracy surrounding the company’s claims that it had created a medical device capable of detecting multiple diseases and disorders from just a few cells. But the claims were false.
Prosecutors said Holmes had booked a one-way ticket for 2022, but canceled it when prosecutors contacted the businessman’s lawyers about the “unauthorised flight”.
Holmes’ attorneys did not respond to phone and email messages from The Associated Press. Responding to prosecutors’ concerns, in a message dated January 23, 2022, lawyers said Holmes had booked tickets before learning of the jury’s decision to attend a wedding in Mexico.
Holmes is due to go to trial on March 17 on a request to remain free while appealing his sentence.
