There are already more users who forget about Android and switch to iPhone

The smartphone market continues to grow, especially Android, as more and more brands are launching new phones as the months go by. However, in recent times it has been confirmed that more and more users are abandoning this operating system to switch to iPhone, or at least that is what a latest Apple report claimed.

It is undeniable, the market share of Android worldwide is much higher than that of iOS. However, the number of people switching from Google’s operating system to Apple’s operating system has increased in recent times. The competition between both the software is more lively than ever so these systems look for different strategies to increase their number of users.

The number had been reduced in previous years. Instead, the trend has grown in favor of the iPhone over the past year. What is the exchange rate now?

Switch from android to iPhone

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) is the firm that carried out this latest report which is surprised to see how more and more people are moving from Android to iPhone. A trend that hasn’t stopped growing over the years. However, as of March 2023, Google’s operating system holds 71% market share worldwide, while iOS represents 28%, although it is leading in the United States.

In any case, the most relevant point here is that in the past 12 months to March of this year, 15% of iPhone buyers confirmed that they were still with Android phones. Instead, 83% of users reported coming directly from another Apple smartphone. Nevertheless, there has been a growing trend to switch to iOS and abandon Google’s operating system, following the trend of previous years. Here are the figures from the last few years:

  • In 2022, 11% of users switched from Android to iPhone.
  • In 2021, 10% of users left their Android mobile to switch to iPhone.
  • In 2020, 10% of users switched from Android to iOS.
  • 14% of people switched from Android to iPhone in 2019.
  • 15% of users moved from Android to iOS in 2018.

Although, undoubtedly, the highest rate of change of an operating system in recent years was in 2016. That year, a rate of 21% was achieved. In any case, this latest report suggests that the trend is on the rise again, especially as we can see how the percentage change in 2022, 2021 and 2020 was somewhat lower than in previous years.

Therefore, there is a shift in favor of iOS due to which more and more people forget about Android and decide to switch to Apple mobile software. And we can’t fail to mention how this report also takes into account other systems, like BlackBerry and Windows, that have fallen short over time.
