There’s good news and bad news with Hampus Lindholm

Bruins will have to play without a defenseman humps lindholm In their next game, but the latest updates aren’t all bad.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy gave the latest news on Thursday about Lindholm’s upper body injury that occurred during a game 2 loss to the Bruins on Wednesday night. Lindholm is out for Game 3, and it’s unclear what type of upper body injury he’s dealing with. But he seemed to falter as Andrei Svechnikov hit the storm, so “concussion” is the clear road to go here.

The silver lining for this is that Lindholm is already back in Boston and doesn’t need to be back in Raleigh after the game. “He traveled back, he’s not available [Friday]So we’ll go from there,” Cassidy said.

It’s not impossible that Lindholm flew back to Boston after the injury, but it seems unlikely that he would not be right on the plane if he was still feeling acute or severe symptoms of a head injury. Obviously, the expectation is that it’s more like a shoulder or chest problem, and if it’s a head injury, it’s not a long-term concern.

Either way, it’s far from ideal without Lindholm, the Bruins’ major trading deadline takeover, on the Blue Line in Game 3. Cassidy told reporters that Mike Reilly “would be the obvious choice to go on defense right now”. He will have a chance to play left side with Charlie McAvoy or Brandon Carlow.

The Bruins are also expected to make regular lineup changes for Game 3 on Friday night at TD Garden. Cassidy confirmed that Jeremy Swainman would start on goal, while it is possible that he could also convert a bottom-six forward.

Bruins-Hurricanes Game 3 takes place in Boston on Friday at 7 p.m. You can get the game’s call at 98.5 on The Sports Hub, starting at 6:30 p.m. pregame.
