What should my child be called? This is one of the many big questions of expectant parents. Now the Federal Statistics Office has published a list of the most popular names. Mia was the most chosen name for newborn girls in 2021. In the boys’ category, Noah Liam moved back from the top spot, the Federal Statistics Office announced Tuesday.
Noah was already the case from 2010, 2011, and from 2013 to 2017. The second most common name for newborn boys was Liam, and the third most common name was Matteo.
Mia, Emma and Elena were the girls’ favorites in 2021. In 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2019, Mia was the highest voter girl.
Daniel and Maria are the most common first names in Switzerland, based on the permanent resident population. Changes in preferences are reflected in individual visits. Even when you were born in 1961, Peter was the most frequently chosen first name for boys, and Maria for girls. Twenty years later, the counterparts were called Daniel and Sandra, twenty years later Luca and Laura.

The biggest climbers recently have been Vera among the girls and Zain among the boys. They rose 131 and 242 places respectively between 2020 and 2021.
