The Councilor for Public Health and Citizen Safety of the Valladolid City Council, Alberto Cuadrado Toquero, this morning received the 7,500 reusable portable ashtrays from the “It depends on EVERYONE” campaign, to be distributed during the fair and celebrations of the Virgin of San Lorenzo , reports ical.
The aim of this action, which is the result of the collaboration between the City Council and the tobacco table, is to raise awareness of the need to properly dispose of cigarette butts in appropriate bins or bins, to allow for proper waste management during times of great influx public to the city. The City Council also called for the cooperation of citizens to prevent this type of waste from ending up on the ground “so as to improve Valladolid’s cleanliness and contribute to the environment”.
In this way, on September 7th, 8th and 9th, the portable ashtrays provided by the tobacco table to the Valladolid City Council as part of its environmental awareness campaign “It depends on EVERYONE” will be distributed in the streets by the organizers of the Out of City.
Not only do they provide the means for the cigarette butts to be disposed of properly, but they also inform smokers of the place where these residues must be deposited. It is important to note that this is a reusable ashtray that can be used multiple times.
One more step
Valladolid is one of the municipalities where the Tobacco Table, a group that represents the sector as a whole, is developing its project to raise awareness of the problem of litter with the ongoing campaign “It depends on EVERYONE” since 2018. This campaign will carried out in various areas, as awareness raising is one of the most effective measures to clean up litter and cigarette butts strewn on the ground.
Since December 2022, the campaign has focused on litter litter in urban settings and high-density events that reach various Spanish cities. Earlier in the summer of 2021, it focused on marine litter with the distribution of garbage bags and portable ashtrays in several coastal towns to facilitate proper disposal of litter on beaches.
Other awareness-raising campaigns have also been carried out at the point of sale and in nature in the past, for example “concerts in nature”. In this way, as part of this action carried out in Valladolid, almost 110,000 campaign portable ashtrays were distributed in various public places throughout Spain. The tobacco table was a reminder that cigarette butts must be deposited in the rubbish bin or in the rubbish container.
La Mesa del Tabaco represents the value chain of the tobacco sector in Spain, i.e. growers, processors, manufacturers of tobacco products and vending machines, importers, wholesalers and tobacconists.
