Iván Marambio, President of Asoex, He commented: “The estimate of cherry exports for this new season is 90 to 100 million boxes. Last year we shipped around 83 million boxes, so it would be a record year.” However, we are still in the process of making a more comprehensive estimate, especially after the rains. Nevertheless, we will have a significant volume. “We will improve the quality and ultimately the consumer in China, our main market, will have an even better product than the one they already had.”
For her part, Claudia Soler, managing director of the Cherry Committee, explained that “cherries have grown by an average of 29% per year over the last seven years.” The cherry is currently the queen of fruits, as it is experiencing very good growth in various markets. “We will continue to grow based on the area already planted and not yet in production.”
The specialist emphasized that the Cherry Committee has carried out a study on the growth expectations in terms of volume and export in the future, “and if the conditions are appropriate, we should see significant growth during the production process in the next four years.” Plantations that “they are already there and are in training.”
“Our original forecast for this season was 100 million boxes. We’re waiting to see what happens during this peak period, and depending on whether the weather cooperates, there may be fluctuations in these forecasts.” We should have a more accurate assessment of how the season will unfold by the end of September, beginning of October, but at this point we’re expecting a growth of the plants already planted,” he concluded.
