They say to see for mental health

There is an institutional problem when it comes to mental health care in Querétaro, as there are few staff for the number of people presenting with depression, anxiety and sadness, three of the main consequences of suicide among young people.

So says Nohemy Ortiz Estrella, psychologist and member of the Querétaro IAP Psychological Board, who pointed out that the entity has a problematic situation regarding mental health, unresolved and without any public policy that seeks to address the facts.

“It has to do with the population, we are not short, and we need more work on aspects of public policy for mental health issues. The population participating in these areas is small for all the demands that really exist. It is important to address it from many angles”.

He said that proper attention to the cases should be from a comprehensive perspective, because although it is an important factor, it is also necessary to address it from educational, psychiatric, cultural, prevention of cases.

“We have high rates of addiction and substance use, and it is important to work on prevention from different angles to accurately address issues including the meaning of life; yes, there are economic and mental health aspects, but the question of why Are We Here?, The Meaning of Life”.

They indicated that half of patients cared for by a board of trustees and privately have had suicidal thoughts since 2019, which is mostly the case for men, but with a significant increase in women each time .

“90% are suicidal thoughts and attempts, and that’s the worst they can get. So poorly managed depression, poorly managed anxiety, are conditions that lead to suicide. We’re talking about an increase in young people.” In talking, but also in children”.

According to the expert, this is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately from the legislative or institutional sector, because although there are care centers and private spaces or civic associations, they are not enough and they fear that with the Covid-19 pandemic, the next few The effects on mental health will take their toll over the years.
