Leonard Favio He was a complete artist who interpreted popular language like few others, and who would have died at the age of 10 on Saturday, November 5, the date on which the sculpture will be placed at the corner of Vera and Corrientes in Buenos Aires. Favio and Museumof Eric Davidson, which seeks to synthesize the relationship that the director had with cinema and music. The same day, the date of the anniversary of his death, is also expected to be renamed Leonard Favio Vera Street, where the Argentine Film Directors (DAC) building is located, an organization that sponsors works of art created by Davidson.

“At one point I decided I wanted to make a statue in the street, but I didn’t know whose. It occurred to me that it might be Favio, a director I was involved with… In fact, my name is Eric Leonardo, after him. Since I was a kid, I always felt close to him, so I started putting things together and came across this image of him with an inspiring collection, as if I was blowing into his ear,” said Davidson .

Favio And The Muse – an artistic, technical and spiritual project

To model the work, sculptors and audiovisual producers turned to dancers. Natalia Pelayo You hernan piquinowho starred in Favio’s film aniketo2008. The two presented Piquin to Favio and Pelayo to the museum, for Davidson to take photographs while they danced with their collection as artists. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe He said that artist is the medium through which angels express themselves. In the final result of the sculpture, a woman appears, floating in the air, whispering in Favio’s ear what he should do, giving life to those words of Goethe.

“Favio reminds me of a super generous person who treats every single one of the 100 people who worked in ‘Aniseto’ with respect. He asked everything with a kindly before each sentence and a thank you at the end,” Piquin said. For his part, Pelayo recalled: “His teachings made me grow as an artist. I don’t have words to describe how it was working with him. He was a very generous man, with great empathy and artistic understanding. experience of aniketo I will always keep him in my heart.”

Regarding the sculpting process, Davidson remarked that the call originated with Pelayo, whom he had met in a video clip he directed. “We became friends,” he explained. Through that the idea of making the base of the statue by 3D scanning arises. We called Hernan, created a 3D model, modified it and made impressions. When we were sure, we printed it in the original size three meters high, and on top of that we worked in wax to finish off the skin. We are already completing this phase, it is taken apart, it goes to the foundry and will be replaced with bronze.

The presentation of the work took place this Thursday morning in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa Crespo, about ten blocks from the square where the work will be finished at the end of the year. At the moment, only his head is missing in the sculpture, which was placed on a table waiting to be placed. “In the institutional part, regarding the authorization to put it on public roads, I left everything in the hands of the DAC, but I understand that there was never any negative and everything was always positive. I think it’s going to happen soon,” Davidson said.

In the work, although it is not the same as his experience as a director, the sculptor had to direct Pelayo and Piquin as actors in a film. However it was not the only point between one activity and another. “I approached it – he explained – from the cinematographic method. There was always a confluence of many arts in this project. Using technology to scan models is a task that is very similar to audiovisual work. One My training as a director gave me experience in how to structure a project to represent it. Aside from being strictly sculpture, the work was composed of the creativity of many people who also work in cinema. Mine It was their cooperation, which made the work even more prolific”.

“A few years back Eric called me to tell me about the project. I felt a deep feeling to be a part of this work. We were able to stick with Hernan to help and Body & Feel to figure out what forms and expressions these bodies could take to give life to Favio and the museum. This is a gift and I am very grateful. Favio was a huge artist who has done so much for Argentine culture,” Pelayo said.

Meanwhile, Piquin commented: “Eric told me about his project one day and it seemed extremely important to me to be able to participate in it, so I didn’t hesitate and went to a studio there, where I met Natalia Pelayo And we started with the pictures and poses he asked of us. Eric called us again and told us about this idea of having his body scanned and there we were also delighted to be able to contribute our grain of sand to this cause”.

Davidson defined the experience as “something beautiful” and of the dancers’ contribution, saying that “they are like players on the national team, they are first-class, and to model them is like living Greek idols.” . We went looking for how Favio related to his creativity and it was very enriching.” With a classic headscarf, a guitar on his back and a megaphone in his right hand, Favio’s statue waits to go out to the public and meet people in the Vera corner of Corrientes, the tenth anniversary of the death of one of his seminal artists.
