The car of questionable aesthetic taste that stars in this article is Apocalypse Manufacturing, a company based in Florida, United States, which is based on the Ram 1500. It’s called the Apocalypse Super Truck 4×4 and it’s somewhat conventional compared to their juggernaut 6×6.
Its engine is the same as that found in the Ram 1500 TRX, a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 which, after being tuned by the company, provides 850 CV of maximum power. It is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive, whose behavior can be adapted to specific ground conditions, thanks to the five driving modes it offers. These are Sport, Drag Race, Baja, Rock and Mud, the latter initially intended to improve motor skills while driving on muddy surfaces. It also has selective inhibition of its differences.
It rides on 22-inch-diameter wheels supplied by SFJ, a subsidiary of Apocalypse Manufacturing, which mount Fury Country Hunter off-road tires. In a vehicle like this, acceleration figures move to the background, and data like the 6.8 tons it’s capable of pulling take center stage. Apart from this, it can jump up to 30 meters without blinking. How do they know? They have tested it more than 50 times.
With a post-apocalyptic appearance, the Super Truck 4×4 hides inside a cabin with seats for seven people and is loaded with all the comforts and amenities one can expect in any high-end car.
Its bodywork preserves practically none of the panels of the vehicle on which it is built. These changes are particularly evident in the areas of the wheel arches, where their shape has been completely revised in favor of exaggerated suspension travel. Steel bumpers have also been added at both the front and rear. The rear one is part of the same structure as its massive grille, which is made up of multiple vertical slats that allow air to enter for its revamped cooling system. In addition, its body displays a strange black casing that results in extravagant accessories installed by Apocalypse Manufacturing making the headlights, which look like the original Ram 1500, project a sharp image.
Its external appearance does not prevent that in the passenger compartment they focused on increasing the comfort of its occupants as much as possible. It seats seven and according to this company, it has the biggest rear bench in the market. The upholstery is leather and a sound system provided by Harman Kardon is installed, as well as ventilated and heated seats and a 12-inch diagonal screen to manage its infotainment system.
The American company based in Florida is already accepting orders for this model, the Super Truck 4×4, the younger sibling of its juggernaut 6×6. The starting price is US$159,999, which is roughly €148,000 at today’s exchange rate.
