Discover what the father of Western philosophy looked like, according to an AI tool called Midjourney
How was it plato? This is the question many asked themselves when reading the works of the famous Greek philosopher, considered one of the founders of Western philosophy. Plato lived between the 5th and 4th centuries BC. Chr. C. and was a student of Socrates and teacher of Aristotle. He founded the Academy of Athens the first university in the Western world to teach philosophy, mathematics, astronomy and other sciences.
However, we do not have an authentic image of Plato, as the surviving portraits date from after his death and may be based on the imagination or idealization of his followers. Therefore, it is fascinating to see how artificial intelligence can recreate Plato’s appearance from a simple text description.
What did Plato look like according to artificial intelligence?
To achieve this result, a tool called Midjourney was used, an AI art generator that can convert text into a realistic image. The text description used to create the image of Plato is as follows: “Plato according to artificial intelligence.” From these few words, Midjourney has created an image that shows Plato’s face with Greek features, curly beard and hair, and a serious, thoughtful expression. The image has an artistic style reminiscent of classic paintings.
The image generated by Midjourney is not intended to be a historical or accurate representation of Plato, but rather a creative interpretation based on AI. However, it allows us to imagine what the physical appearance of one of history’s most influential thinkers looked like and invites us to reflect on the possibilities and limitations of AI as a means of artistic expression.
If you want to try Midjourney and create your own images from text, you can access their website or Discord server, where you can see other users’ creations and share your own. Available for public use in beta mode, Midjourney is a free and fun tool for experimenting with AI-generated art.
