construction boom in the countryside
This is where most of the manufacturing takes place in Switzerland
The future is yours: hundreds of apartments will be built in the municipalities of Asch BL, Frick AG and Niederbipp BE.
Until now, construction hotspots in Switzerland have been in the immediate vicinity of major centres: in some cases, more than 30 percent of the housing stock has been approved in recent years. Most of the living space was built in Bulach ZH and Dübendorf ZH in German-speaking Switzerland.
It’s going to change. Construction cranes will now tower not only in the skyline of piles, but especially in rural communities. This is shown by a new assessment by UBS.
Construction underway in Bern and Baseland
Several new apartments are being built in north-western Switzerland, for example Asch BL, Frick AG, Niederbipp BE or Kaiserrogst AG. Along with Appenzel and Buch SG, eastern Switzerland is also on the map of new construction hotspots.
In the canton of Zurich, the focus is on Illnau-Afreticon and Wetzikon in the Oberland and on Birmensdorf in the Limmat valley.
Planning applications have been submitted for more than 100 new apartments per year since mid-2020, in all communities designated by UBS as construction hotspots. For example, in Frick, more than 350 apartments will hit the market in the next few years, according to regional media.
The same is the case with single family homes. Over the next few years, these will also be built mainly in rural areas around Willisau lu, Lucerne, Aarau, Olten s and Will sg. More than 100 single family houses are being built there.
Working from home impacts construction activity
The fact that there will be more construction away from the big centers in the future also concerns the Home Office: since the outbreak of the pandemic, residence and work have been separated.
Boom communities have already recorded average population growth in recent years. Therefore the new living space should not remain vacant for a long time.
