Three deputies who shot at an armed man killed in the El Paso County shooting were identified Thursday as members of the Tactical Support Unit.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the police shooting occurred on September 1 in the Golihar Road and Golihar Court areas near Peyton, when the man fired at the deputy. The CSPD is investigating the shooting.
On Thursday, the sheriff’s office identified the deputies involved as Ryan Gonzales, David Fisher and Andrew Peary. Gonzales has been with the sheriff’s office since 2007, Fisher since 2014 and Peary since 2016. The deputy is on administrative leave per Sheriff’s Office policy.
Police said at the time of the incident that the deputy and sheriff’s Behavioral Health Connect unit, including a licensed health practitioner, contacted a “suicide” person in the area. The man was found first in an open field and then into a wooded ridgeline from where the deputy was visible. Attempts were made to pacify the situation by phone calls for several hours.
“During these attempts, he fired his weapons at the deputy at least once,” police said earlier. Deputies returned. The man died on the spot. The investigation continues.
