Three men and two women were killed in a shooting at a gay club in America.

Washington, Nov 21: Three men and two women were among the five people killed and more than 25 injured in a shooting at an LGBT club in the US this Saturday, local officials said Monday.

The suspect in the attack, a 22-year-old identified as Anderson Lee Aldrich, remains in hospital but is expected to be released in the coming days. He will actually appear before the justice as soon as he is discharged.

The media announced today that he would be charged with five counts of first-degree murder and five other hate crimes, although El Paso County (Colorado) District Attorney Michael Allen told a press conference that this has not been formalized. Still fully charged.

The shooting took place at midnight on a Saturday at an adult venue called Club Q, which hosts a drag queen performance.

Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Pamela Castro said the room was a “refuge” for the area’s gay community and noted that an investigation is underway to see if she had received threats in the past.

The assailant began firing at people as he entered and was subdued by at least two of those present, one of whom was wounded.

Police received an alert call at 23:56 local time (06:56 GMT) on Saturday and minutes later several patrols went to the scene, where they arrested the attacker.

The injured were taken to various hospitals in private vehicles and at least 13 were still hospitalized on Monday.

The Hill outlet noted that Aldrich is the grandson of politician Randy Voepel, a legislator in California’s lower house who compared the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol to the War of Independence.

Local newspaper The Gazette said in June 2021 a man of the same name and age was arrested for a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of a neighborhood in the southeast of the city for about three hours Although ultimately no formal charges were filed against him.

The El Paso County District Attorney said today that he cannot comment on the case because of the lack of charges.

Club Q released a statement this Sunday saying it was “devastated” by this “senseless” attack. At least two firearms were found at the scene. Aldrich used a long-barreled rifle and police are investigating whether he had an accomplice.
