Tiger King star Joe Exotic says he has prostate cancer

Joe Exotic, the jailed star of the hit Netflix series The King of the Tigers, says he was diagnosed with “aggressive prostate cancer.”

“With a sad face, I must tell you that the doctors called me today to report the news that my prostate biopsy came back with aggressive cancer. I am still waiting for the results of another test [sic] also, ”he wrote in a handwritten letter provided to The Times on Thursday by his attorney, John M. Phillips.

“Right now I don’t want anyone pathetic [sic]“- added a 58-year-old man.

The exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, became famous in 2020 in the documentary series “The King of the Tigers: Murder, Chaos and Madness” at the beginning of the pandemic. Since then, the former zoo owner has been going through a wildlife crime prosecution and a murder-for-hire conviction against tiger rival Carol Baskin, who recently sued Netflix for featuring her in King of the Tigers 2.

The eccentric Exotic has publicly pleaded for freedom, even asking for and receiving a pardon from former President Donald Trump earlier this year. Although his 22-year sentence was canceled in July, Exotic remains incarcerated at Fort Worth Medical Center, a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas, his lawyer said, noting the facility is no longer a hospital.

“I’m sure Carol [Baskin] she will have her own party about this, ”wrote Exotic in his letter dated October 27th. “I need the world to be my voice, so that I can be set free. They have evidence that I did not do it, and the US attorney has no reason to procrastinate so that I can go home and be treated on my own or enjoy the life I left behind with my loved ones, ”he added. “Please read the prayer. Be my voice, please.

According to his lawyer, the former owner of the big cat has also received treatment and tests for a variety of problems.

“What makes prostate cancer puts it even worse, between a stone and a hard place, because it needs to undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy, which is a long time,” Phillips told The Times in a telephone interview Thursday.

“But what are you putting in order? Freedom or Health? The problem is that Joe cannot decide. The judge and the Ministry of Justice must decide, and therefore we are trying to speed up the process and put freedom first, ”he added.

Phillips said he doesn’t know much about the Exotic prognosis, but his legal team is awaiting a hearing in Oklahoma that will determine the new verdict for the documentary star. After the re-conviction is final, Phillips plans to file motions for government misconduct, ineffective lawyer assistance and new evidence.

“Last few years [sic] took away everything from Joe – his property, his freedom, his husband literally sold his clothes, his parents passed away and now he is facing cancer, ”Phillips said.

He said they’ve worked tirelessly over the past few months to uncover clues, some of which will be revealed in Tiger King 2, which kicks off November 17 on Netflix. Other information supporting Exotic’s freedom will only be revealed in his court case, Phillips added.
