The Xolos de Tijuana enjoyed a “walk in the park” as they beat Diablos Rojos del Toluca (2-1).
This is thanks to the dominance they had over the Scarlets from start to finish, in addition to excellent goals from Carlos González and Fernando Madrigal. Robert Morales received the discount for the Mexico State team.
A “dog” domain
It only took 12 minutes for the Xolos de Tijuana to take the lead on the scoreboard thanks to Paraguayan striker Carlos González. The border striker applied the “law of the former” against Toluca after taking advantage of an overrun by his teammates on the right wing.
The teams led by Miguel Herrera got to the top thanks to Eduardo Armenta, who managed to score on Fernando Madrigal. The Mexican midfielder shot in front of the goal by Tiago Volpi, who was able to parry the shot, but González took advantage of the ball at his feet and shot the opponent’s goal to make it 1-0 for Club Tijuana.
In the 17th minute, when Nacho Ambriz’s team was just “waking up” after the rival’s goal, Fernando Madrigal made “an extraordinary move” and increased the score to 2-0. The national midfielder circulated the ball to the edge of the opponent’s area shortly after crossing the midfield.
After an outstanding dribble from Madrigal, the Mexican broke into Tiago Volpi’s penalty area and despite the Scarlet goalkeeper’s quick reaction, the ball ended up near his top left corner. Moments later, Madrigal celebrated with the rest of his teammates.
The Rage of Toluca
Even after Ambriz tried to shake up his team with Maxi Araújo, Robert Morales, Isaias Violante, Fernando Navarro and Edgar López, Toluca showed no signs of talent and even the frustration began to escalate exponentially.
In the final minutes of the second half the duel became so intense that Jean Meneses was sent off after elbowing Diego Barbosa. This act reflected the impotence of the scarlet team, unable to carry out their game throughout the game.
Already in stoppage time (90th + 7), Toluca managed to “make up” the score a little thanks to Morales’ goal. The Paraguayan element managed to break through Toño Rodríguez’s goal after taking advantage of a series of favorable rebounds following the corner kick.
