TikTok has announced that it is working on an AI chatbot named Tako that aims to make it easier for users of the social network to search for content.
Since ChatGPT entered the scene last year, AI chatbots have become an absolute “must have” for all companies, especially those operating in the technological field. TikTok is more than aware of the rapacious “hype” flying around AI and was quick to sink its teeth into this technology with the creation of its ChatGPT emulator.
A social network from China has announced that it is working on an AI chatbot called Tako that aims to make it easier for TikTok users to search for content.
“We’re in the early stages of exploring chatbot tools with Tako’s limited testing with select users in the Philippines,” TikTok explained in a Twitter post.

According to Tako subsidiary ByteDance, which anchors third-party technology “to help make it easier to find entertaining and inspiring content on TikTok.”
The social network’s new chatbot would be placed at the top of the screen, as TechCrunch has learned. And the user will be able to meet Tako with questions about the visions they are looking at, and also ask for recommendations to find a whole new content.
The existence of Tako was previously reported by the website Watchful.ia and now it was TikTok that has previously published confirmation of the views on the social network.
Tako does not use the internal intelligence from TikTok and is at the mercy of a third-party AI model that is properly customized to fit the needs of the social network. The name of the couple has been published by the platform of the elite Tako, but it is unknown.
Tako is available now and only for a few users in the Philippines
TikTok has sent a few Filipino users who can already benefit from the Tako notification to inform them that they can now try a function that the social network describes as “experimental” (and therefore subject to possible errors). The ByteDance subsidiary also advises that Tako should under no circumstances be used to consult information of a medical or financial nature.
In order to improve the user experience, TikTok analyzes all conversations with Tako, where the information is stored (a fact that is particularly disturbing for privacy-conscious users).
Besides TikTok, Snapchat also has its own chatbot in the app. And Meta also reported its intention to bring artificial intelligence to WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.
