TikTok is testing Tako, a chatbot powered by artificial intelligence
After the explosion of ChatGPT, Snapchat created the chatboy My AI, a popular artificial intelligence, so it was obvious that the opportunity for TikTok would arise. So now we learn that TikTok is testing its chatbot, Tako.
According to information from Reuters, TikTok is testing a chatbot/assistant called Tako, which can talk to users about videos and help them find content. The test is being conducted in the Philippines.
Below you can see some screenshots of Tako in action (via Vigilante), although they are not of very good resolution;
Chatbot Tako is presented as a navigation assistant with a focus on encouraging users to watch more videos and not as a general purpose chatbot. When users ask Tako questions, the chatbot provides them with answers, but also shows relevant TikTok videos. The company emphasized that the Tako chatbot is experimental, so the answers are not accurate. Also, conversations with Tako are always recorded for security purposes, so users are asked not to share private information with him.
TikTok filed a trademark application for “TikTok Tako” with the US Patent and Trademark Office last month, in categories including “computer program for artificial production of human speech and text.” According to a TikTok spokesperson, the social media platform is always exploring new technologies.
We don’t know when Tako will reach the rest of the world.
