TikTok is developing its own AI chatbot called “Tako”, although it is unclear if this feature will be released to the public. It is currently tested with a small number of users. The main idea of Tako is to help users find the content they want within TikTok, but it can also answer a variety of random questions.
Tako, TikTok’s ChatGPT
Tako shows a screenshot prompting the user to ask: “What is the significance of the coronation of King Carlos III?” In practice, using Tako is like being in a chat room, similar to ChatGPT. However, it is not clear if Tako is based on TikTok’s own AI model or a third party.
TikTok doesn’t seem to have any short-term plans to release Tako to the public. The company informed The Verge that this AI-powered tool was developed for a select group of users in the Philippines and is not available in other countries. However, TikTok recently proposed the art application “Tako”, suggesting that the company has serious plans for its artificial intelligence.
In the future, this makes TikTok the top search engine for many Internet users, especially teenagers, the platform already has, a smart algorithm can suggest videos to users. On top of that, this month Snapchat also announced the addition of ChatGPT-AI to its app.
Although online platforms are competing with the best AI, Apple has yet to show any indication that something similar will happen in the near future, as the company is looking for engineers specializing in generative artificial intelligence. Microsoft, Google and other giants are in the battle for the dominance of this technology.
