At the meeting of the owners of Mexican football, held this Monday, where the new president of the Mexican Soccer Federation, Juan Carlos Rodríguez, was introduced, a plan was worked out for all the branches and regions of our football, especially the maximum circuit.
MX League would make various modifications to allow for the growth and development of Mexican soccer. These are the ten proposals of Liga MX president Mikel Areola and supported by the owners of the teams.
.- Mandate to create a model for centralizing broadcasting rights and commercial sponsorships in Mexico, the United States and the rest of the world.
.- LIGA MX will lead a new plan for the sale of clubs and to attract new investors to Mexican football, so that there will be only one owner per team. It should be noted that four clubs have already expressed their willingness to participate in the process: Atlas, Santos, Querétaro and Mazatlán.
.- From 2024 all clubs will be required to submit financial reports to LIGA MX.
.- To develop young talents, a new category of sports competition will be created which will be called Sub-23 Expansion, Sub-20 will be removed and it will be merged with Expansion League. With this category, the expansion league’s income would be stronger, as it would lose the subsidy in the 25–26 season.
.- Considering the expansion league’s financial instability and limited ability to generate its own resources to invest in infrastructure, the promotion and relegation rule for the said league approved in 2020 is maintained: 4 at the start of a season Comply with certifications and become the Champion of Champions. After the first promotion, two years later there would be the first relegation from Liga MX to the expansion.
.- New rules for players’ agents with commission cap and prohibition of double representation, rule not to hire minors and directory of agents registered with the federation, rules in line with FIFA by October 2023.
.- In order to increase the competitiveness and maintain the interest of the fans in Liga MX, the play-off has been abolished and instead the play-in has been approved, as it is used in the NBA, Liguilla Qualifying 7 and reducing 10 from 12 who are graded, i.e. 20% reduction for straight forwards and 50% increase (contract).
.- Economic incentive to the best team of the season (the team with the most points in the tournament), starting from the 2023-2024 season, with a direct pass to the CONCACAF Champions League and the League Cup round of 32.
.- From the next tournament the number of foreigners on the court drops from 8 to 7.
.- They support a plan to promote the export of players abroad that affects Mexican players not having a Community passport, which will be obtained in two years.
