Tinder adds a ‘Festival Mode’ for making connections before concerts and events

Tinder is launching a new feature today called Festival Mode, which is designed to help users connect before they plan to attend concerts or big concerts, like The Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Stagecoach, EDC Las Vegas and others. The feature was designed in partnership with live entertainment company Live Nation, as well as event producers AEG Presents and Superstruct Entertainment, whose upcoming events will now be included in the new Festival Mode feature found on Tinder Explore.

Launched last September, Tinder Explore is home to the dating app’s growing number of social features, including ways to connect with others based on interests, an instant chat feature that allows members to interact before matches And the interactive video series “Swipe Night, ”among other things. This section also serves as a place where Tinder can try out more experimental features without modifying the overall design of the app.

For Festival Mode, the company points to the survey data that prompted it to create the new feature. For example, it turns out that 1 in 3 singles plan to attend a concert or concert in 2022, and 64% of singles said they had to meet new people while attending live concerts. Nice to meet. In addition, more than 3 out of 5 users (61%) said they were friends (or more…) with someone who was (a survey of 2,000+ adults in the US by The Harris Poll on behalf of Tinder during a week in April). The survey was done online.)

“Music is a universal language and the number one interest among Tinder members around the world. Many of our members are excited to jump back into the in-person event. Kyle Miller, VP of Product Innovation at Tinder, said in a statement. Wanted to build on the excitement and offer them the opportunity to meet someone new before one of the biggest festivals of the year.” Festive Mode lets you put yourself back there, meet new people before you hit the festival grounds And gives you a chance to make friends. It’s a great, low-pressure way to reconnect in the real world.”

To use the feature, Tinder members will be able to choose which of the various festivals they plan to attend and then start matching with others who are leaving just a month before the show . Festival Mode will also include a “Festival Goers” space for those who either don’t see their particular festival listed or who are fans of festival culture in general and want to interact with others who share their similar interests. share.

The feature will launch with support for 20 festivals around the world, including Bonnaroo, EDC Las Vegas, EDC Orlando, Hard Summer, Lovers & Friends, Stagecoach and The Governor’s Ball in the US International, as a festival mode for the Tinder Falls festival. will offer Festival X and Splendor in the Grass in Australia; All Points East & American Express presents BST Hyde Park in the UK; as well as Lollapalooza in Paris, Berlin and Stockholm; Parookaville (Germany); Sziget Festival (Hungary); Palmesus (Norway); Sonar (Spain); and the Wunzig Duntjes Festival and Milkshakes in the Netherlands.

The timing of the new facility, of course, comes just ahead of what some expect will be a relatively normal summer, pandemic-wise, as COVID deaths decline. Or, as The Atlantic put it, it would be “Hot Wax Summer Redux”. (Though, that may not happen.) In any event, event promoters are hoping for concert-goers to return, and Tinder saw a way to capitalize on that.

Festival Mode is one of only a few major new Tinder products to launch after Tinder missed out on parent company Match’s Q4 earnings, following support for virtual “blind dates” and a background check feature. While the company posted revenue of $806 million in the quarter, led by flagship dating app Tinder, it fell short of Wall Street’s expectations of $819 million. Earnings per share ($0.60) was lost, compared to $0.50 in the year-ago quarter, and trailing estimates of $0.53.
