Franklin, Tenn. ( Associated Press) – Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing is free on bond after his arrest Friday morning on drunk-driving and speeding charges.
Downing was released from Williamson County Jail at 7 a.m. (0100 GMT) after posting $2,500 bail. He entered the jail at 4:39 am.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol ordered Downing to stop his vehicle a few hours after Thursday night’s game, the Titans’ 27–17 win over Green Bay.
Downing’s coordinated attack turned in its best performance of the season as Tennessee (7–3) won for the seventh time in eight games.
“We are aware of the reports regarding Todd Downing, and are in the process of gathering additional information,” the Titans said in a statement.
The arrest left Downing at risk of being penalized by the NFL.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said, “We are in close contact with the clubs to discuss how this will be reviewed.” “All league and club personnel, including coaches, are subject to potential disciplinary action when a violation is determined to have occurred.”
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said he spoke with Downing, majority owner Amy Adams Strunk, general manager John Robinson and NFL officials. Vrabel said the league has policies on these incidents, and the Titans will ensure the NFL has all necessary information.
Vrabel also emphasized that he cannot answer many questions, noting that the NFL and legal proceedings are ongoing.
“Although I will say that we all have a great responsibility as members of this community, as coaches, as players, fathers, husbands and teammates in this organization, and we understand that,” Vrabel said.
Vrabel said that before the coach was hired in January 2018, the Titans had a program in place for employees requesting a ride home, regardless of the time.
