Top Michigan election official issues dire warnings about the 2022 midterm

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) warned Friday about what the 2022 midterm elections mean for the future of democracy in America.

On MSNBC’s “Deadline: The White House,” host Nicole Wallace noted how Benson was “just the kind of person” that former President Donald Trump wanted to replace to potentially reverse the 2024 election if the vote was his or hers. Doesn’t go to any other Republicans, by the way.

Benson, who was elected Michigan’s top election official in 2018, faced threats from Trump supporters after the 2020 election, amid failed GOP efforts to eventually reverse President Joe Biden’s victory.

“That 2022 will decide whether we have democracy in 2024,” Benson replied.

“Our ability to defend and defend democracy in 2020 depends entirely on honest people on both sides of the aisle, protecting the will of the people when the president called, and said, ‘Find me the vote,'” And certify elections despite the threats and violence and challenges to those certification processes,” she said.

Benson expressed hope that voters would “make the right choice.”

“This is our opportunity between now and Election Day to make it clear to voters in states like Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, that democracy is on the line,” she concluded. “His vote this year will determine its future.”
