Tovar continued to thunder and the Rockies posted a doubleheader against SF

DENVER – The San Francisco Giants’ playoff chances took a dim turn on Saturday when the Colorado Rockies beat them 9-5, 5-2 in a doubleheader.

In the first game, Colorado took advantage of seven walks and in the second they took advantage of two errors and a few wild pitches.

Venezuelan Ezequiel Tovar finished the doubleheader with five hits and five RBIs, including a career-best four RBIs in Game 1 for the Rockies.

The Giants (75-74) fell two and a half games behind Cincinnati in the battle for the third and final wild-card spot for the American League playoffs. They are also below Arizona and Miami.

San Francisco, which blew a 3-0 lead in the first game, had won 16 of 17 against Colorado since August 21 last year but lost the first three games of a four-game series.

Victor Vodnik (1-0) won his first major league decision in the second game. He allowed one run and two hits in two innings.

In the first game, San Francisco pitchers scored seven runs and scored their second hit of the season.

The Venezuelan Thairo Estrada crowned his career with four hits for the Giants, who started the first day behind Arizona and Cincinnati and half a game behind Miami in the fight for the final wild card in the National League.

Keaton Winn, Ryan Walker (4-3) and Ross Stripling combined to walk seven, although the Rockies’ pitchers also walked seven. LaMonte Wade Jr. hit a home run for San Francisco.

The Rockies began the turnaround from a 3-0 deficit with a bases-loaded triple in the third inning.

Karl Kauffman (2-4) allowed one unearned run and two hits in four innings. Gavin Hollowell had his first save with Colorado.

The Rockies have won consecutive games against San Francisco since August 2022 after losing 16 of 17 against the Giants.

In the Giants’ first game, the Venezuelans beat Thairo Estrada 5-4 with a run scored and an RBI, Wilmer Flores 4-0 and Luis Matos 3-0 with a run scored.

For the Rockies: Venezuelan Ezequiel Tovar 3-for-5 with a run scored and four RBIs, Harold Castro 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Dominican Elehuris Montero 3:0.

In the second game for the Giants, the Venezuelans scored Estrada 4-1 with a goal, Flores 3-2 and Luis Matos 2-1.

For the Rockies: Venezuelan Tovar 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Elías Díaz 1-for-4. Dominican Montero 4-1 with an RBI. Mexican Alan Trejo 4:0.
