With Akio Toyoda from the leadership of Toyota, the electric revolution has begun in the Japanese brand and this Toyota Urban (still in the prototype stage) shows us the way that the company will aim to get one of the first places to sell it market.
Toyota has indicated that the Urban will hit the market in mid-2024 and will join the C-HR and Yaris Cross in the subcompact crossover segment. Although it is still presented with the name of the Concept, it is a car that needs to replace some elements such as wheels and mirrors, in order to enter the production line directly.
The plan itself estimates that there will be an offer of at least 15 hybrid or fuel cell models in 2026 (at least in Europe), to raise the share above 20% of its sales.
“We will continue to offer more carbon dioxide reduction technologies while continuously increasing the number of zero-emission vehicles we offer to our customers,” said Toyota Europe CEO Yoshihiro Nakata.
As for the Urban, it is a 4.3 meter long model, similar to the Yaris Cross. The brand has shown that it will be affordable, and although it has not shown a price estimate, the European media intends to open around 25,000 euros to be competitive.
Aesthetically, it has a modern look with elements we have seen in other Toyotas, such as the headlights derived from the bZ4x and the new C-HR, or the fenders and pillar design from the Yaris Cross . In any case, it is a model with its own identity.
There are no images of the interior, so we know it’s not finished yet.
About the mechanics, nothing is known, but Toyota indicated that there will be 4×2 and 4×4 variants (with one or two motors) and will offer two battery sizes and autonomy.
This Toyota Urban is the first of six electric car launches scheduled for Europe until 2026.
