Transcript of Jan. 6 reveals disagreement dividing Trump’s caucus

The House committee probing the January 6 attack on the Capitol released more than 40 additional tapes of his questioning on Friday, bringing the total number of tapes released to more than 160.

So far, the transcripts have released to the public details of how police intelligence failures contributed to the attack on the Capitol, how former President Donald J. Trump reflected on issuing a “blank pardon” for the accused, and how Trump’s lawyers tried to alter witness testimony.

The committee is racing to issue more inquiries before January 3, when Republicans take control of the House.

Although the committee conducted over a thousand inquiries, many of them informal, there were only a few hundred sessions that were transcribed.

These are just some of the topics among the thousands of pages released this week:

Giuliani recognized that confiscating voting machines could be an impeachable offense.

The Secret Service was concerned about a visit to the White House by the leader of the Proud Boys.

Virginia “Ginny” Thomas tried to downplay his role in challenging the election. Virginia Thomas is the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

CIA employees made a “suicide pact” to resign if Trump fired the director.

The Trump White House was marked by frequent intrusions.

Trump did not want a press release to be issued stating that the Capitol Police officer had died after January 6.

A furniture executive financed private jets for Trump’s inner circle as they grappled with the election results.

The plan to use mock voters was the brainchild of Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah.
