Trial of Nations 2023: Spain continues its reign

Toni Bou, Jaime Busto and Gabriel Marcelli won the gold medal in the Trial of Nations held in France. Therefore, they extended the Spanish reign in this discipline for another year, for the 20th time in a row, the 29th in history. Meanwhile, the women’s team, formed by Berta Abellán, Sandra Gómez and Alba Villegas, had to settle for silver behind the United Kingdom.

If we consider that the Spanish men’s team is made up of the top three finishers of the TrialGP, success seems certain. The pilots as favorites in a competition that also includes France, Italy, United Kingdom and Norway. However, if Bou is difficult to defeat individually, when he combines his potential with Marcelli and Busto, they become an unstoppable force.

The score of this competition is formed from the results of the two best drivers of each team in each zone. Thus, today’s day was favorable for Spain from the beginning, which ended the first round with only 12 points and the second with less than one. Those 23 points for Spain are unattainable for others. The French remained at 51, while Italy did so at 53. Therefore, these three countries form the podium.

A silver almost gold

There was no such luck in the women’s category, although the Spanish team was also on the podium. They do this in the second step. Abellán, Gómez and Villegas ended the day with 9 points, four more than the British who had a perfect first round with zero points. Therefore, the United Kingdom took the gold and the silver from Spain. On the other hand, with a big difference between the first two, Norway completed the podium with 33 points.
