Tributes have been paid to a “beautiful” 5-year-old boy found dead in a river in South Wales after two adults and a teenager were arrested on suspicion of murder.
The body of the youth, locally named Logan, was found in the Ogmore River near Pondy Park in Bridgend, when police were called early Saturday morning to report a missing child.
South Wales Police said on Sunday evening that a 39-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy from the Bridgend area were being arrested in connection with the deaths.
Officials are not looking for anyone else, the force said.
As the circumstances of the incident continue to be investigated, the police called witnesses who were in the area at 5:45 am on Saturday and came forward to provide information on how the child ended up in the water.
Family friends paid tribute to the “kind, funny, polite, handsome and clever” boy on social media.
Those wishing to pay tribute were encouraged to place teddy bears on a lamppost and footbridge near the tragedy site.
Chief Inspector Geraint White said: “This is a tragic incident in which a young child tragically lost his life.
“We are appealing to anyone who has witnessed this incident, or who has any information, to get in touch.
“We would ask the public not to speculate about this incident on social media as it is an active investigation.
“If you have any information that may help, please report it to us.
“Our thoughts are with the family and we are supporting them in every way possible.”
White said there has been “regular contact” with the boy’s family, who are being supported by expertly trained officers.
He said: “The local neighborhood police team will continue to support and talk to residents of the area, and I encourage people to speak to them if they have any concerns.
“We believe that there are many people in the local community who want answers about what happened to him.
“We are keeping an open mind and working hard to establish the full circumstances of his death so that we can respond to his family.
“This is a comprehensive and sensitive investigation and many people have been affected by this death.”
He thanked members of the local community for their “understanding and support”.
The officials asked to be contacted by quoting the reference number 2100268674 for any information.
