Triple in 2026! Mexico sells 6,000 electric cars, the highest number in Latin America

The growth prospects are even more encouraging. Statista predicts that there will be a total of 18,900 electric cars in Mexico by 2026, meaning sales will triple in three years. This is largely because demand for electric vehicles in Mexico is the highest in the region, surpassing other countries. In comparison, Brazil is expected to reach 16,000 electric vehicles and Colombia 7,000.

Inside first half of 2023A total of 30,023 electric vehicles were sold in the Mexican domestic market, an increase of 30% compared to the previous year. Additionally, these electric vehicles now account for 4.5% of total light vehicle sales in the country during this period. The companies with the highest demand include: Mexico City, Mexico, Nuevo León, Jalisco and Puebla.

It is important to highlight that in Mexico there are already specific insurance policies for electric vehicles that offer specific protection for high-value components such as: Battery, charger, inverter and transformers.

100% electric vehicles are the ones whose sales have increased the most, recording an impressive 200% increase, from 1,703 units sold in the first half of 2022 to 5,306 in the same period of 2023.

When it comes to sales by state, Mexico City leads the ranking with 7,684 units sold in the first half of the year. Puebla, on the other hand, stands out as a company with outstanding statistics, consistently in the top ten companies with the highest turnover and registering a significant increase in turnover over the last year. In contrast, Durango is among the top ten units with the lowest sales and the largest sales decline in a year, while Nayarit leads this category with just 65 units sold through June of this year.
