Trump: ‘Too early’ to know whether Pence would lead a partner in the potential 2024 bid

Former President Donald Trump said on Saturday night that it was “too early” to know whether he would consider former Vice President Mike Pence his running mate if he were elected president in 2024.

Trump told Fox News in an interview at the North Carolina GOP conference that he and Pence have a “very good relationship” but that it is still too early to discuss potential running mates.

Trump has not publicly indicated whether he will definitely run for president, but he has committed to staying active in politics and has indicated another presidential election in 2024.

“Mike and I have a good relationship, we still have a good relationship, but it’s still too early to discuss runners,” the former president said.

“I was disappointed with Mike about one thing, as he understands and other people understand, but overall I had a very good relationship with Mike, and he is a very nice person and a good man,” Trump told Fox News.

The former president probably referred to Pence’s refusal to reject the January 6 vote of the Electoral College. During the U.S. Capitol Building violation, some “Hang Mike Pence!” after the vice president said he did not have the power to stop Democratic Joe Biden’s election victory.

“I was disappointed with one bill, but it was a choice Mike made, and I want people to make their own decisions, and he did,” Trump added.

However, Trump spoke to Fox Business last month and said he would consider Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis as a running mate.

“I endorsed Ron, and after I endorsed him, he ascended like a rocket,” he said. “He has done an excellent job as governor. I say what I read and what you read, they like that ticket. Ron will definitely be considered. He’s a great guy. ‘

Trump again hinted at a possible 2024 presidential run on Saturday night, saying he would “make a design sooner than people think.”

‘I’m making a decision in the not too distant future, maybe sooner than people think. “I think they’ll be very happy,” Trump told Fox News.

Several Republicans, including two lawmakers, have predicted that in 2024, Trump will indeed make another bid for the president.

Asked during a Fox News interview about Trump’s prospects on May 25, Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said that “every time” he talks to Trump, the former commander-in-chief says he wants to run. ”

“He’s going to run, I think, but he’s not quite committed yet. “I certainly hope he does, because no president has done what he said he would do as President Trump,” Jordan said. ‘Best president I think we’ve ever had. To keep his word, do what he said, do what he was chosen to do. ”

Mark Meadows, a former Republican congressman and Trump’s former chief of staff, agrees with Jordan’s assessment.

“This is what I would say: the American people want him to run. I believe he will run. “At the end of the day, it’s a time to vote, and the American people will vote for Donald Trump,” Meadows told Fox News.
