Tucker Carlson Can’t Get Stephen Colbert and His Puppet Out of His Head

Fox News host Tucker Carlson largely ignored Tuesday’s explosive developments during the Jan. 6 house-selected committee hearings and instead continued his attacks on late-night host Stephen Colbert.

Colbert’s team was arrested at a congressional office building on Thursday, and Carlson called the antics “attack on democracy.”

Carlson, who said the entry was an “uprising” and “exactly as it happened on Friday, January 6”, asked why the “Late Show” team did not see similar consequences compared to those of the rioters who tried to attack the 2020 presidential election by the U.S. Capitol while Congress convened to certify voter turnout.

CBS said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter last week that the seven-person team – a group that included Robert Smigel, the voice of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog – was there for “authorized and pre-arranged” interviews and , after a final interview, were in the wards to continue filming before their arrest.

“All seven of them have been charged with illegal access,” Carlson noted.

“This is the identical charge for which hundreds of January 6 accused were prosecuted. But, unlike the Jan. 6 defendants, Colbert’s employees were not sent to solitary confinement in DC jail for a year and a half. No, they were released behind bars after a night out, and then they fled back to New York. Why is that? “

Carlson also asked if what Colbert’s crew did was “different” from what rioters did on January 6, 2021.

His line of inquiry also dug into the comic side of Colbert’s crew, specifically Smigel.

“Be honest, it’s not even close. “The guy at Pelosi’s desk is hilarious compared to the guy with the talking dog,” Carlson said.

During his Monday show, Colbert interviewed people who draw comparisons between his crew and rioters.

He said the comparison of his staff members, including the actions of a “cigar-chomping” dog, with the Capitol attackers was “a shameful and grotesque insult” to the people who died during the attack.

“And that belittles the service and the courage that the Capitol police displayed on that terrible day, obscene.
