Following is a release from the Alzheimer’s Society at First Link:

January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and the Alzheimer’s Society of Salt Ste. The District of Mary and Algoma is launching a campaign to remind people that the organization is the first link to support, knowledge, and community.

Diagnosing dementia is not easy. Building an instant connection with a community of support can make a big difference by removing the uncertainty and the unknown. The Alzheimer’s Society is the first place to turn and the first link is a connection of support, care, knowledge, expertise and referrals.

First Link is an Alzheimer’s Society program that provides approved services and information to people living with and caring for Alzheimer’s or other dementias. This includes the areas of risk reduction, education, living well with disease, community, research and advocacy.

First Link® aims to ensure that users of the Services have the right support and information from the time of initial diagnosis and throughout the course of disease progression. By joining FirstLink, the user will have access to all the services available in his/her local area. Various programs and services are available, such as counseling support and a better understanding of different health care options.

Call the local Alzheimer’s Society at 705-942-2195 to gain access to services and programs. Throughout January and the rest of the year, visit the URL alzheimer.ca/FirstLink for more information
