Former President George W. Bush’s presidential gaffe sparks discussion on Twitter.
During a speech, Bush mistakenly referred to Iraq instead of Ukraine, while addressing Russia’s invasion of the latter country.
Bush said, “One man’s decision to launch a totally unfair and brutal invasion of Iraq.” He then reversed his words and blamed his age for the mistake.
The goof-up will likely join the list of many bush bloopers over the years.
When the US invaded Iraq in 2003 under the watch of the former president, Twitter users swiftly retracted the mistake.
Bush’s administration at the time claimed that the country had weapons of mass destruction, although UN inspectors later found no evidence that such weapons existed prior to the invasion.
Many users were quick to point out the irony between the invasion of Iraq and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Oops. If you were George W. Bush, you would think you would avoid making any speech about a single person launching a totally unfair and brutal invasion,” wrote former Michigan Congressman Justin Amash.
