Two cars caught fire in Nekochia in the last few hours. In the first of them, a vehicle burst into flames in the middle of 42nd Avenue, sending a huge column of black smoke rising over the busy thoroughfare. Fortunately, a woman who was inside the car was rescued and attended to immediately by emergency services. In a second incident, a car parked on 73rd Street also caught fire in the early hours of Saturday.
The first incident that shocked residents of busy 42nd Avenue, almost at the intersection with 81st Street, was when a car caught fire around 10 a.m. this Friday.
A thick column of black smoke began to rise over the avenue as a gray Fiat Palio burst into flames, suffering severe front-end damage.
A woman, whose identity is still unknown, was inside the vehicle at the time of the fire. He was quickly rescued and evacuated by emergency services that arrived at the scene. An ambulance from Dr. Emilio Ferreira Hospital arrived at the scene to provide first aid to the victim, who was taken to the hospital. So far no information has been revealed about his health condition.
A team of municipal fire brigade has also reached the spot to douse the flames. A thick column of black smoke billowing from the burning vehicle was visible from several blocks away.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, the Directorate of Transit decided to close Avenida 42, forcing drivers to take an alternate route.
In another similar incident, a car caught fire in the early hours of Saturday. The incident occurred at call 73, between calls 56 and 58, where the vehicle was parked. The fire department immediately reached the spot to control the fire.
Officials from the local fire department pointed out that there is a high incidence of this type of accident in Nekochia and clarified that many of these cases are intentional crimes. In other cases, the fire is caused by mechanical failures.
