Two in three Democratic Party voters expect current President of the United States Joe Biden to run again as a candidate in the November 2024 election, but the figure of the current President does not seem to evoke any particular enthusiasm, as far as two-thirds do there who think someone else should apply for the job, whoever it is.
Biden has lost momentum at the image level, with popularity ratings at around 39 percent. Those who believe the United States’ economic situation has worsened because of his management already come to 58 percent – up eight percentage points in less than a year – and seven in 10 people believe the country is generally going according to a poll published by CNN.
Only one in three Americans believe Biden is a president to be proud of, and the president inspires confidence in only 28 percent of the population. A large majority, 73 percent, are concerned about his advanced age – he is 80 and would be starting his second term at 82. 61 percent fear that he will not be able to complete his eight years in the White House.
The survey shows that among Democrat voters there are no clear alternatives with regard to a possible candidacy apart from Biden, and this does not appear to be the case within the Republican Party for the time being, since Donald Trump was clearly in the foreground of the election campaign even before it began of the primary process.
The popularity of both candidates is virtually equal as they are evenly matched in their voting intentions – 47 percent for Trump compared to 46 percent for Biden.
Nearly six in 10 citizens acknowledge that if the 2020 general election were held again, they would vote for their stance on the former Republican rather than the ideology itself. In fact, 30 percent of those who tend to support Biden admit they do so out of opposition to Trump, who has multiple legal fronts open.
