U-20 World Cup Round of 16 Cross

La Plata, Argentina.

The group stage of the U-20 World Cup in Argentina ended this Sunday, with the elimination of Honduras, and the round of 16 cross defined, which will be played between Tuesday, May 30 and Thursday, June 1.

In this instance, the Youth World Cup would feature a CONCACAF team, which would be the sole survivor. The United States secured their ticket after winning Group B with three wins.

The North American team will face New Zealand in the last 16, a match that will be played in Mendoza on Tuesday, 30 May. Uzbekistan and Israel will clash on the same day.

The 2023 edition, to be held in the Argentina zone, will see five South American teams play in the round of 16 of the World Cup for the first time in this category, after qualifying for Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay.

The first three teams did so as leaders of their respective groups, which would give them a crossover to the round of 16, a priori, more affordable. Ecuador and Uruguay certified their ticket to the next round as runners-up.

“Historic! For the first time” in a U-20 World Cup, “there will be five South American teams in the round of 16,” CONMEBOL celebrated on its social networks.

Of the five, only Albiceleste, which is at this World Cup because FIFA withdrew organization from Indonesia due to protests over Israel’s participation, has closed the group stage with an outright win. Three out of three.

The eighth final will be played like this:

Tuesday 30 May
United States-New Zealand (Mendoza)
Uzbekistan-Israel (Mendoza)

Wednesday 31 May
Colombia-Slovakia (San Juan)
Brazil-Tunisia (La Plata)
England-Italy (La Plata)
Argentina-Nigeria (San Juan)

Thursday 1 June
Uruguay-Gambia (Santiago del Estero)
Ecuador-South Korea (Santiago del Estero)

The eight qualifiers will play the quarterfinals from June 3 to 4.
