Within the framework of the 2023 edition of its global GO/GET event, Uber announced a series of new functions for Mexico and other parts of the world that will come to improve the experience across both its mobility service and its delivery platform .
Broadly speaking, the new features announced by Uber are focused on optimizing the family travel experience as well as encouraging family meal delivery requests.
As Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said, “We’re announcing new products focused 100% on families and their safety, as we create solutions aimed at making each member’s life a little easier.”
The company introduced a huge number of new solutions, which, in principle and in full, will come to the United States. Some of these updates will be available for some other cities in Mexico and Latin America.
Joker’s departure from Mexico and other LATAM countries brings to the fore just how closed off the distribution market can be in the region.
Multiple origin group trips with Uber
If we talk about visiting Mexico, then in principle we have group tours. When a group of more than four users decide to take a shared trip to the same destinations, but they do not match at the starting point of the trip, this function will allow each person to enter their location so that the same driver can be selected Take the whole group on a route optimized by the Uber platform, which promises the most efficient route.
The cost of travel will be apportioned to the entire group based on the amount of time each person spends traveling in the car.
The function is expected to arrive “soon” in the Mexican cities of Zacatecas, Hermosillo, Torreón, San Luis Potosi and Chihuahua, although an exact launch date has not been specified.
Group orders and family profiles on Uber Eats
Along the same lines to favor using Uber in groups, the company introduced group ordering and a family profile function for Uber Eats. With this feature, members of a family will be able to create a joint Uber Eats account to place orders from a shared shopping cart. The function will allow you to define deadlines for adding products to the purchase, automatically split the bill, and pay with a common payment method for all participants. The tool is already available worldwide, including in Mexico and the rest of the Latin American markets where Uber operates.
Uber accounts for teens
The most lucrative work coming to Mexico and other parts of Latin America has to do with accounts focused on teenagers. According to Uber, this is a solution that was born from listening to the demands of its users and has been designed with the safety of minors as a priority.
Through a family profile in Uber, parents or guardians will be able to create individual accounts for teens ages 13 to 17, with the intent that they can request rides from their own devices. The option of traveling alone is open to them.
