UC Davis withdraws from trick play, beats Idaho 27-20

Davis, Calif. (WNN) — Wide receiver Carson Crawford threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to McCallan Castles in the middle of the fourth quarter as eighth-placed UC Davis beat Idaho 27-20 on Saturday night.

UC Davis’ Trent Tompkins threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jared Harrell that tied the game 20-20 with 14:08 remaining. In the next series of Aggies, Tompkins overtook Crawford, who hit Castles in a stride to advance. Castels made a diving catch while dragging a defender across the goal line with 8:05 to play.

Idaho’s Mike Byudrey threw an interception to Devon King near midfield on the Vandals’ final possession with 1:34 remaining.

UC Davis freshman Miles Hastings was 15 of 27 for 144 yards with touchdowns and interceptions on his debut. Tompkins completed all four of his pass attempts and ran for 85 yards on 13 carries.

Budree completed 22 of 35 passes for 255 yards. Elisha Cummings had 15 runs in 125 yards for Idaho (1-3, 0-1). Zack Boris had a pair of touchdown runs and finished with a run of 82 yards.
