UEFA investigates Ibrahimovic’s abuse

The Swedish striker originated in Bosnia, and a person sitting in a Serbian VIP box was racially abused.

In the Europa League against Serbian star Belgrade in last week’s Europa League, after Italian club AC Milan forward Ibrahimovic was subjected to ethnic abuse, UEFA conducted a disciplinary investigation on the woman.

Serbian media reported that a person sitting in a VIP box at the Bosnian Red Star Stadium insulted Ibrahimovic during the game on February 18.

UEFA said in a statement on Thursday: “Today, an ethics and discipline inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation of the incidents that occurred in the 32 rounds of UEFA Europa League matches.”

Ibrahimovic did not participate in the game, but broadcast the scene of the Swede through a TV channel, and a man’s voice called him repeatedly.

This term is a derogatory term for Bosnian Muslims used by Serbian nationalists.

The father of Swedish striker Ibrahimovic is a Bosnian from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no fans participated in the game, but the reception box on the top of the stands on the west side of the stadium is full and can accommodate hundreds of people.

Tickets for these seats are usually not sold, but issued to club guests or reporters.

Ibrahimovic sat on the western side of the stadium with other Milan substitutes and staff.

Last week, Red Star apologized to Ibrahimovic in a statement and said it would cooperate with the authorities to identify the culprit.
