On September 16, the sport will be green, white and red, and at least that’s what’s expected at this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night, where Mexico’s Alexa Grasso hopes to recapture her women’s flyweight title against Kyrgyzstan’s Peruvian Valentina Shevchenko confirm.
It’s worth noting that there will be a total of six Mexicans among the main and preliminary cards who will climb into the cage this Saturday in search of glory for the Mexican sport.
How do you get there?
With 19 fights in her history, the Guadalajara-born Jalisco has won 16 of them (10 by submission) and lost three. Since her loss to Carla Esparza in 2019, she has won five straight, including the flyweight title.
Grasso assured that this time the roles will be reversed and that he will try to make his first successful defense, having been preparing for this moment for several months.
“This fight will be special because it is my first title defense. It will be the first time that I am the champion and she is the challenger. “I have to defend something that I have worked on over many years and that makes it something very special,” he emphasized at halftime.
Shevchenko, also known as Bullet, started her career as a boxer until she decided to join mixed martial arts and establish herself as one of the best. He has fought 27 times, with 23 wins (eight by knockout) and four losses.
The Kyrgyzstan said she was convinced that at the end of the confrontation she could emerge victorious and thus regain the belt that she had worked so hard for.
“I say this with all due respect, I will get my belt back because in the fight there is only one winner and that winner in this case, in this fight on September 16th, I will do it myself,” he stressed.
Pelea Grasso vs. Shevchenko 1
It is worth remembering that the last fight between the two took place between them on March 4, 2023 at UFC 285 and saw the Mexican Grasso surprise with a fourth-round victory for submitting to Shevchenko to take the belt away from her.
