UK Parliament questions CMA to block Activision Blizzard buyout

Now that the European Union has given the green light to Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, UK lawmakers are starting to turn their attention to the Competition Markets Authority (CMA). Deal in UK.

CMA bosses Markus Böckrink and Sarah Cardell have been openly questioned over the decision taken by the regulator, and many MPs are concerned that the blockade will affect the UK’s reputation internationally. With many concerns revolving around when the UK will be open for business, some Microsoft and Activision executives have said it is unclear after the CMA’s decision.

As seen in the session recorded on ParliamentLive. TV (and as reported by Eurogamer), the CMA’s Böckerink has already responded to these concerns from MPs:

“I understand the conclusion: when a decision is made that blocks a deal, it calls into question whether the UK is open for business. All companies know that starting a business, investing in a new business There is a big difference between doing, investing in a startup, creating a new company, and buying an established company, there is a big difference between well established and well established companies, both are not the same thing Are.

“The UK has always encouraged – and it is the CMA’s obligation to encourage – open competitive markets. We are vigilant – as we have a duty – to invest in investments that strengthen what is already a market force.”

While the EU is in favor of the deal, the CMA has also pointed fingers at the US and how the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is still in the process of blocking or approving the monumental merger.

In any event, the CMA appears to be sticking to its decision, which Microsoft will appeal anyway, a process that will no doubt take months, if not years, to complete.
