The mayor of Kiev, Wladimir Klitschko, assured in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants Russia to reintegrate into its territory all countries that “were in the former Soviet sphere of influence, including the German ones. “Democratic Republic (GDR), the Soviet satellite state that remained in Germany after World War II.
“Putin does not explicitly mention the GDR. But it’s easy to imagine. “The GDR was part of the Soviet sphere of power and it is known that Putin maintains a special relationship with the GDR,” noted the mayor. When the Berlin Wall fell, Putin was stationed in Desde (East Germany) as an envoy of the KGB (secret service of the USSR).
“Putin has this sick vision: he says that the greatest tragedy for him was the collapse of the Soviet Union. “He wants to rebuild the Soviet empire,” said Klitschko. The mayor also stressed the need to speed up military aid to his country, because “for any delay, Ukraine will pay a heavy price.”
“Today almost all Germans are aware of the danger that exists not only for Ukraine, but also for Germany. Before, no one could imagine a war between Russia and Ukraine, but it is a harsh reality. “Nowadays no one can imagine a war in Germany, but in the current times there are no guarantees,” he said.
Germany delivers 100 tactical drones to Ukraine
On the other hand, cooperation between Germany and Ukraine continues. Klitschko himself announced via Telegram this week that the German company Quantum Systems will provide Ukraine with 100 next-generation tactical drones. According to the Kyiv Independent, the deal was signed with an investor and management of Quantum Systems at the annual summit of the Stern Stewart Institute in Germany.
According to Klitschko, Kiev allocated around $136.5 million from the city council’s budget to support the war front. Therefore, Kiev is now looking for new investors so that it can continue to provide aid to Ukrainian soldiers. “We have delivered vehicles, rapid transport, equipment, drones and medical equipment to the fighters on the front lines,” the Kyiv mayor said.
